The spec form is how every project starts. "Spec" is short for specification — it just means "a description of what you want built". Here is what each step asks and how to answer it.
Before you start
You need nothing but a few minutes. It works on a phone. You can leave any question on its default answer and we will ask you about it when we call.
Step 1 — What are we building?
Pick the closest match: a website, an online store, an app, a system for your own staff. If nothing fits, choose I'm not sure and tell us the problem in step 2. We will suggest the right shape.
Step 2 — Describe it in one line
The elevator pitch. "A booking site for our lodge with online deposits." "An app for our drivers to log deliveries." One sentence is enough — the detail comes later.
Step 3 — Where does it need to work?
Two quick questions. Which devices people will use (phones, laptops, tablets, an installed app). And where it runs — most things run on the public internet, but if yours is for staff only, must work offline, or has to live on your own server, tick that. It changes how we build it, so it is better to know now.
Step 4 — What should it do?
A list of common features, grouped: accounts and logins, taking payments, bookings, stock, a customer portal, reports, and so on. Tick anything that applies. Nothing here is binding; it just tells us what to price.
Tip: If you are unsure whether something counts as a feature, tick it anyway. It is easier to take a line off a quote than to discover it was never quoted.
Step 5 — Tell us more
The free-text box. Useful things to mention:
- Who will use it, and how often
- Anything you already have — a domain name, a logo, photos, a spreadsheet you want replaced
- Websites or apps you like the look of (paste the links)
Step 6 — Budget and start date
A range is enough. It does not lock you in; it stops us quoting something three times bigger or smaller than you had in mind.
Step 7 — How do you want it looked after?
Once it is live somebody has to host it and keep it running. Choose between hosting it yourself, having us host it with changes billed by the hour, or a monthly plan that includes hosting, support and a block of hours. Not sure is fine — we will explain the options alongside the quote.
Step 8 — Your details
Name, email, phone, company. That is all.
After you press send
- You see a confirmation on screen and the clock starts.
- The spec lands in our pipeline — the same system all our work runs on — and the team is notified.
- If anything needs clearing up, we phone you.
- Within 1010 minutes (about 17 hours) your quote and proposal arrive, and we send you a portal login so you can accept it online.
